SAMUDERA Shipping has added an extra containership to its Kolkata-Haldia Express (CALEX) in response to increasing demand for cargo to and from Kolkata.
The Singapore-based line expects the addition of a 629-TEU vessel will increase the service frequency to one sailing every week between Singapore and Kolkata, an improvement over one sailing through Kolkata every 16 days.
"With this vessel, we can better cater to higher customer demand as goods can be moved more quickly with reliability," said Samudera executive director Dhrubajyoti Das."
The company has been serving Kolkata through its Kolkata-Haldia Express service and third party slot exchanges since 1998. The group also serves other ports of the Indian subcontinent such as Chittagong, Chennai, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Pipavav and Karachi.
"Going forward, Samudera will continue to seek opportunities to build its presence beyond the shores of south east Asia and explore the feasibility of new services to cater to increasing customer demand," said a company statement.
