Jilin to launch second shipping line to Japan

May 25, 2010 Shipping

NORTH EASTERN China's hinterland province Jilin lying on the northern border of North Korea plans to launch a new shipping route connecting its Huichun city via Russia's Zarubino to Japan's port of Tsuruga, Xinhua reported.

This is Jilin province's second shipping service to Japan after the Huichun-Zarubino-Sokcho (Korea)-Niigata (Japan) route launched in 2009.

The new route covers 460 nautical miles and sailing time is 25 hours, shorter than shipping from Dalian via China's Bohai and Yellow seas to the west coast of Japan, said the report.

Government of Huichun and Tsuruga have agreed to set up expert group to study the issue. Government of Tsuruga has visited Jilin province and Russia to make field study on the local logistics network.
