Apr 18, 2008 Shipping

On April, 14 the “Saga Wave” started the off-loading of a cargo of 6,000 tonnes of “coils” at the DFDS Multi Terminal at the Rotterdam Maasvlakte.

According to the press-service of the port of Rotterdam, the steel coils come from China and are going to be stored at DFDS for distribution in Europe. For Rotterdam, this is a new package of cargo of 40,000 tonnes, which is expected to double in 2009. The initiator is the Swiss steel trader Carbofer.

Besides Ro-Ro facilities, DFDS has a 500 metre quay with a depth of 16 metres. There are three warehouses available with an area of 10,000 m2. The terminal has a rail connection with the Betuweroute.

It is said that besides Gevelco in the Botlek, DFDS Multi Terminal is the second steel facility in the port of Rotterdam. The construction of a third terminal, Steinweg, on the Maasvlakte, is to start soon. The Interforest Terminal in Eemhaven is also expanding its steel handling capacity.
