AN 18-member Chinese delegation including representatives of logistics companies, freight forwarders and air cargo carriers called on the container port of Prince Rupert and the nearby Prince George air field on Canada's west coast.
Delegates toured Prince George Airport, the future logistics park site and Prince Rupert to see the transportation and logistics capabilities which claim to beat California transit times for Asian cargo to Chicago by three days.
The Prince George Airport Authority has been courting Chinese carriers for the past three years, but this is the first time they have seen the airport's facilities, said Prince George Airport CEO John Gibson.
"We just opened the cargo apron two weeks ago. We can now move ahead," Mr Gibson said, adding that Canada is holding talks with China on bilateral air agreements.
The business case for the airport's recently-expanded main runway is based on becoming a re-fuelling and logistics stop for air cargo travelling between North America and Asia.
