CHINA and the US have approved in principle the renewal of their scientific research and agricultural trade cooperation agreements.

The first 2003 agreement established the joint committee on cooperation in agriculture that meets every two years.

Said US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack: "With two-way agricultural trade reaching nearly US$15 billion, the renewal is an indication of the importance that both countries place on working together."

For China, Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai signed the memorandum of understanding in Washington, reported American Shipper. The next meeting takes place on October 22 in Washington. The one after is October 29 in Hangzhou when Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and US Trade Representative Ron Kirk join the deliberations of the US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.
