DENMARK's Maersk Line has commenced a new Florida to Central America service by slot purchasing space on APL's 'Central America Express' (CAX) service.

The CAX service links Miami to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala and Puerto Cortes in Honduras.

The twice weekly service uses two x 500-TEU vessels that are both operated by APL, said Paris-based AXS-Alphaliner. The first sailing with Maersk participating in the service was reported to be on September 9.

The newsletter added that the CAX service will complement Maersk's South Atlantic Express (SAE) service that makes port of calls at Savannah, Wilmington, Norfolk, Miami, Puerto Cortes, Santo Tomas de Castilla, returning to Savannah.
