Maersk Line has appointed a 33-year veteran of the container industry to head its New Zealand operations.
He is Julian Michael Bevis, who for the past two years headed Maersk's Indian Line and Operations business.
Mr Bevis previously held a number of senior management positions with P&O Nedlloyd, which was acquired by Maersk in 2005, Maersk said on Wednesday.
Late last year, Maersk Line announced that it would overhaul its organisation, reducing the number of operating regions from 14 to 11.
That meant Maersk New Zealand, previously part of the Oceania region managed from Sydney, will from late this year be part of the newly formed Asia-Pacific region, headquartered in Singapore.
Oceania area manager Soren Houman said the appointment of Mr Bevis reflected the importance Maersk placed on its presence in NZ and its commitment to strengthening a soon-to-be self-sustained and independent Maersk New Zealand organisation.
