Coscon imposes 'emergency' surcharge for Aden cargo

"IN view of the situation on ships in Aden port", Cosco Container Lines has imposed an "emergency port surcharge" of US$200 per TEU and $400 per FEU on cargo shipments to the port, according to a company statement.

There was no reference to what the "emergency" is, and no one at the Beijing headquarters would say, or refer inquiries to any official in the company who knew.

"You must know the name of the person who has the information you want before we can pass you on," said the woman who answered the phone.

The surcharges will depend on the date of arrival of the shipment will be applicable to dry and reefer cargo as well, said the statement.
