BUSAN Port Authority (BPA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the municipal government of Suifenhe, a Chinese border town north of Vladivostok, together with Russia's JSC Far Eastern Transport Group (DVTG), to develop and operate an Inland Container Depot (ICD) project in Suifenhe.

BPA is hoping Suifenhe will help feed cargo to the Nakhodka, specifically timber exported by rail from Russia, which is typically loaded through ports in Dalian.

Busan Port Authority will participate in development the Inland Container Depot. It is a part of efforts to create new cargo following its investment in Nakhodka port of Russia.

The agreement includes the provision of land, preferential taxes and infrastructure fees from the municipal governments of Mudanjiang and Suifenhe and capital investment by Korea's BPA and Russia's DVTG.

Through Suifenhe rail links with Primosky Krai, eight million tons of timber from Russia are expected annually and which will be exported to Dalian.

BPA's investment in the Suifenhe ICD will make significant contribution to creating new cargo for the Port of Busan when it connects with the Port of Nakhodka where BPA decided to invest in fish, container and multi-purpose terminals.
