UNITED Cargo, a division of United Airlines (UAL), has started offering a new service dedicated to the transportation of healthcare and pharmaceutical products that require strict temperature controls and monitoring during air lift to ensure they remain viable for use, called Temp Control (SM).
United Cargo is working with Envirotainer, a provider of temperature-controlled air cargo containers, to offer its new Temp Control solution.
Temp Control offers three temperature ranges depending on the type of medication, vaccine or other similar pharmaceutical product that is to the transported, namely: Freeze (-10 degrees Celsius to -20 degrees C), Cool (+2 degrees C to +8 degrees C) and Ambient (+15 degrees C to +25 degrees C).
Temperature readings are taken at specified points during transportation of the shipment. Furthermore, United's centralised Temp Control customer service team provides proactive shipment temperature notification that is available 24 hours a day.
"With our extensive global network and wide-body capacity, United is well-positioned to serve the needs of the increasing number of shippers needing temperature-sensitive transport," said United Cargo vice president Kyle Betterton. "After a well-received Temp Control pilot programme in select markets, we are pleased to offer this convenient service to all our customers."
