CUSTOMS will begin using a new x-ray machine for container inspection shortly at Da Chan Bay's Terminal One, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Shenzhen Customs Shi Fusheng.
Da Chan Bay Terminal One invested CNY28 million (US$4.09 million) in the advanced x-ray equipment that will be used by customs at Da Chan Bay, to detect dangerous and illegal goods.
The new x-ray machine is expected to simplify inspection and shorten the clearance. The process takes a mere three minutes as containers need not be opened.
Managed by Hong Kong's Modern Terminals, Da Chan Bay Terminal One is situated in the Western Shenzhen Port area. Covering an area of 112 hectares, it is equipped with five berths and has a 1,830-metre-long quay with a depth of 15.5 metres. Its last two berths became operational in June.
