CSAV Norasia to start Indus service

Jul 27, 2009 Shipping

CSAV Norasia has announced the launch of its new Indus service, with its first sailing from Shanghai on August 12, the Shipping Gazette reported. On the same day, its existing Super Galex service will begin calling at Bandar Abbas in Iran.

The Indus service is being dedicated to the trade between China and the Indian subcontinent, including connections with South East Asia at Port Kelang in Malaysia.
A company statement said the direct ports of call will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Port Kelang, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Karachi and Mundra on a 35-day rotation. ICDs in India will be served through Mundra and Navasheva.

The Indus service will deploy a fleet of five 2,500-3,000 TEU vessels. CMA CGM is a partner in the Indus service and will operate one of the five ships, as well as Laurel Navigation Line which will operate one ship, reports the American Shipper.
In a related development, the carrier's Super Galex service has been redesigned as a fully dedicated service to the Gulf ports in the Middle East.

Starting from August 12, the Super Galex will add a direct call to Bandar Abbas. Effective on the same date, it will stop calling at ports in the Indian Sub-continent "thus further improving its transit time between China and the Gulf," a statement from the ocean liner said.

This is a weekly service, operated with a fleet of 6,500-TEU vessels and a rotation of 42 days.
The port rotation for the Super Galex service will be: Shanghai, Xingang, Qindao, Ningbo, Chiwan, Port Kelang, Jebel Ali, Dammam and Bandar Abbas. Cargo to and from other Gulf ports will continue to be serviced with a connection at Jebel Ali.
