HONG KONG shipping company OOCL has announced the christening of its latest newbuilding, the 4,500-TEU OOCL Brisbane, named at the Geoje Shipyard in South Korea.

The OOCL Brisbane is the eighth Panamax class vessel in the carrier's fleet of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.

"We are certain that the OOCL Brisbane will live up to its name by providing a vital link to world trade. With such vessels, OOCL can improve the service we provide to our customers, offering greater economies of scale, increased capacity and higher frequency of sailings," said OOCL chief executive Philip Chow.

The carrier said in a statement that the OOCL Brisbane will be deployed on the Asia-Australia AEA2 service.

The port rotation for the AEA2 is: Yokohama, Osaka, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and back to Yokohama on a 35-day round trip.
