In the first half of 2009, Big Port of St. Petersburg handled 22.605 million tonnes of cargo (-23%, year-on-year) including 4.753 million tonnes handled in June (-14%, year-on-year).
In the 6-month period, transshipment of dry bulk fell by 26% to 3.589 million tonnes, dry loose cargo – by 51% to 89.0 million tonnes, timber – by 90% to 82.2 million tonnes, general cargo – by 30% to 5.428 million tonnes, containerized cargo – by 32% to 6.498 million tonnes.
During this period the port started handling cargo delivered by ferries – 127,000 tonnes. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 4% to 6.729 million tonnes.

According to the Administration of the Sea Port of St. Petersburg, about 30 stevedoring companies are engaged in transshipment of cargo in the port.
