Oil export via port Primorsk up 3% to 38.42 mln t in H1 09

In the first half of 2009, export of oil via port Primorsk increased by 3% to almost 38.420 million tonnes, Administration of Big Port of St. Petersburg reports. In June the port handled 6.596 million tonnes of export oil (+5%).

The port’s turnover of vessels totaled 882 units (442 in and 440 out) with June accounting for 148 units (74 in and 74 out).

The port was put into operation on December 27, 2001 as the final stage of the first phase of Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) aimed at oil transportation from Timano-Pechersk and West-Siberian oil-and-gas provinces as well as from Kazakhstan. PBS’s annual capacity as of the date of commissioning was 12 million tonnes. In 2003 PBS’s capacity was increased to 30 million tonnes of oil per year. Today its capacity is 65 million tonnes. In 2008, port Primorsk handled 75.58 million tonnes of cargo.
