The Hamburg-based shipowner E.R. Schiffahrt has celebrated the naming ceremony of its first bulker at the Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard in Vietnam on July 7, 2009. At the same time, this was the first bulker the shipyard has ever built, taking full advantage of the know-how within the Hyundai Group.
The "E.R. Bergamo", which is 187 metres long and 32 metres wide, belongs to a series of 14 supramax vessels. The bulkers with a deadweight of 55,783 tons and a cargo hold volume of about 70,000 cubic metres have four deck cranes. Grain, iron ore, coal and hot coil are the likely cargoes. All bulkers of E.R. Schiffahrt’s fleet are fully financed and will sail under long-term charter agreements. South Korean shipping company Hanjin is the charterer of the "E.R. Bergamo".
The "E.R. Bergamo" was named by Sujin Stubkjaer, the wife of E.R. Schiffahrt’s CEO Knud E. Stubkjaer. One of the key speakers in the course of the naming ceremony was J.B. Song, President and CEO of Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
