NORWAY’S Aker Solutions told Fairplay today it has signed a landmark contract with Maersk FPSOs for mooring installation offshore work in Brazil.
The contract to perform the mooring installation at Brazil’s Peregrino oil field is Aker’s first marine installation job in the country, marking the company’s first steps into a lucrative market, rich with potential.
“To get a foothold there now, as the market is ready to take off, is very important for Aker,” Endre Johansen, Aker VP of communications, told Fairplay.
Aker Solutions has been in Brazil for more than 20 years, Johansen pointed out, but only delivering subsea hardware equipment that goes on the seabed.
“Today was the first hit for us in the Brazil market for marine operations,” added Johansen.
The work involves the installation of a submerged turret production buoy with a mooring system. The buoy will be moored around 100m deep, using 10 mooring lines with 90 tonnes of heavy chain and wire. Maersk FPSOs will deliver the mooring components.
“We are very pleased to be working with Maersk FPSOs on this job,” said Aker Solutions executive VP Mads Andersen. The work will take place during Q409.
