The surcharge will go into effect July 1 and applies to all shipments where the bunker adjustment factor is included in the rate or fixed.
“Shipments where the BAF is separated and floating will not be affected by the emergency bunker surcharge,” the carrier said.
ZIM said the emergency surcharge would be reviewed monthly and was predicated by rising bunker fuel prices, which have topped $400 per ton in recent days after dropping below $200 per ton earlier in 2009.
