Containerships improves its Mediterranean service

Jun 22, 2009 Shipping

Leading short sea carrier Containerships is pleased to announce an upgrading of its Mediterranean service. A third vessel will be deployed for the service that started in March of this year. This will be the MV Thetis - a 1400 TEU vessel that will join the service from 27th June. This new vessel will join the two 900 TEU vessels MV Jana and MV Mare to improve the frequency from fortnightly to every 9 days.
The rotation remains unchanged: Tilbury - Teesport - Rotterdam - Piraeus - Istanbul - Izmir - Rades - Salerno - Tilbury. Libyan ports of Benghazi, Misurata and Tripoli are served via trans-shipment in Istanbul.
The ports of Hamburg, Helsinki, St Petersburg, Riga, Klaipeda, Gdansk, Aarhus, Gothenburg and Helsingborg will be linked into the Mediterranean with transhipment at Teesport. The Irish ports of Dublin, Belfast and Cork will be served by transhipment in Rotterdam.

“The market has responded well to our idea of replicating the door to door services with 40’ and 45’ pallet wide high cube equipment that we have in the North and Baltic Sea into the East Mediterranean” says Containerships CEO Sigurjon Markusson. He continues: “We are sure that further improvements in transit times will follow shortly”.

The transit times will be:
Tilbury / Teesport / Rotterdam - Piraeus 9 / 8 / 7 days

Tilbury / Teesport / Rotterdam - Izmir  13 / 12 / 11 days
