Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has drawn up a plan to set up a shipyard complex near the proposed international container transhipment terminal (ICTT) at Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram involving an initial investment of Rs 1,000 crore, it was reported.
CSL has already submitted its expression of interest (EoI) in this regard to the state government.
CSL has estimated land requirement to be 150 to 200 acres, with a waterfront length of 1.5 km to 2 km with connectivity to the shipping channel.
Experts opine that Vizhinjam is a suitable location for a shipyard complex due to its proximity to the international trade lane. The location has a natural draught of about 12 metres. Besides, there is scope for expansion of the complex.
