Rate increases in the Far East to Europe trade

Jun 9, 2009 Shipping

Maersk Line announced rate increases on its services from the Far East to Europe. The trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the
situation is unsustainable in the longer term.
The rate increases are necessary to continue to operate Maersk Line services with the high level of reliability its customers have come to expect from Maersk Line.
Far East to the Mediterranean and North Europe:

- USD 300 per TEU effective 1 July 2009
- USD 150 per TEU effective from 1 August until 31 October 2009 (Peak Season Surcharge)

The increases apply to all cargo and commodities, including reefers and special equipment.
Besides, Maersk Line announced rate increases on its services between Europe and the Middle East & South Asia.
South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) to the Mediterranean and North Europe:

- USD 500 per 40' dry container effective 1 July 2009
- USD 150 per 20' dry container effective 1 September 2009
- USD 300 per 40' dry container effective 1 September 2009

The increases apply to all cargo and commodities, excluding reefers.

Mediterranean to Middle East & South Asia:

Apart from the unsustainable rates in this trade, Maersk Line also implements the rate increases in response to an improved demand.
