New IMO sulphur rules could hit Baltic Sea transports

The Norrbotten chamber of commerce in north Sweden has warned that new environmental regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) could stop all maritime freight transport in the Baltic Sea, Logistics Finland reported. The regulations call for a maximum 0.1% of sulphur in vessel fuel from 1 January 2015 in the Baltic Sea, English Channel and North Sea, which could raise freight rates by 50%.
