The logs being used by a shipyard company in Barangay Lucanin here are legally sourced from suppliers who were granted logging permits by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Lucanin Barangay Captain Ludy Funilas said that he will not allow any illegal activity in his coastal village, particularly the use of illegally cut logs, because this would compromise the environment and future of the villagers.
Funilas lauded the campaigns launched against illegal logging and fishing by Gov. Tet Garcia, adding he is supporting the war against illegal logging and fishing in the province.
Aurelio Elly Arenas, a long-time contractor of the Seafront Shipyard and Marine Services, who is engaged in ship repair and retaining-wall cosntruction, among others, also attested that the logs being used in the shipyard are legitimately purchased from suppliers in nearby Zambales, and the logs are not coming from the mountains of Bataan.
Arenas showed copies of the permits granted by the DENR to various individual suppliers who have long been supplying logs to the Seafront Shipyard.
Arenas and Funilas’ action came in the wake of the arrest of two men identified as Hermogenes Buldador, 57, of Cavite, and Efren Ronsairo of Binuangan, Bagac town, who were caught by personnel of DENR and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group transporting two pieces of illegally cut logs.
