May 15, 2009 Port

Terminal operator Scotto & Co. Srl (Neri Group) in the Port of Livorno, Italy, has recently commissioned a 100-tonne G HMK 4406 Mobile Harbour Crane from Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald). This is the first Gottwald crane for Scotto. At the same time it is the first unit of Generation 5 Harbour Crane Model 4, launched by Gottwald at the end of 2007, to go into service in Italy, bringing the overall number of Model 4 cranes sold to date to 17.

G HMK 4406 for multipurpose use in the Port of Livorno
The G HMK 4406 crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes, a working radius of up to 46 metres and can serve ships up to the Panamax class. At the Scotto terminal in the Port of Livorno it is used as multipurpose crane for handling general cargo, containers and bulk materials, especially cellulose.
“We are proud to be the first terminal in Italy to operate a Model 4 crane,” said Giorgio Neri, Managing Director, Scotto & Co. Srl (Neri Group). “Gottwald cranes are known for incorporating the most up-to-date crane technology and we are sure that we are getting the best equipment available on the market. The new G HMK 4406 ensures the performance, flexibility and versatility we need for handling a variety of cargo in our multipurpose terminal and thus will help us to guarantee our customers the shortest processing and minimum ship berthing times.” Neri also stressed that the short delivery lead and assembly times, as part of the overall service and support, were a major consideration when choosing Gottwald as supplier. “We were impressed by how soon after ordering we were able to put the crane into service,” Neri said.

Model 4 on the road of success
Winfried Lux, Regional Sales Manager at Gottwald is pleased about the new order: “With the order from Scotto, we were able to win a new customer and strengthen our position in Italy, which is an important market for us and where already a number of other Generation 5 cranes are in operation. And this order shows that also our Model 4, which extends the existing model range of the Generation 5 in the 100-tonne segment downward, meets the requirements of Italian port operators.”
