On May 8, 2009, Malmö’s mayor will break ground for a major new port facility for Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) in Norra Hamnen in Malmö, Sweden. May 12 CMP will promote the new port facilities at the international fair in Munich, ”Transport Logistics 2009”. The fair runs to May 15.
Transport Logistics provides an excellent opportunity to tell the transport and logistics industry about the ideal facilities in Norra Hamnen, Malmö, for transhipments of cargo between ships, trucks and the railway network. New port terminals and a combi-terminal will be ready to receive ferry cargo and containers from the beginning of 2011. The €100 million Norra Hamnen project will substantially increase the capacity of the port.
The multi-modal project is of particular interest to distribution and manufacturing companies, who will be able to use the new terminals for distribution in the Øresund and Baltic Sea Regions. Companies that need access to port and transport facilities will be encouraged to set up on 700,000 m2 of adjoining land.
”In spite of the current state of the market we believe that the Norra Hamnen-project is of interest to distributors and transport providers. We consider the facility to be the new gateway for import and export to Southern Sweden and an ideal base for distribution. The auto industry has clearly shown that great parts of the Baltic Sea Region can be covered from one hub. That is a way to save time and money”, says Göran Sjöström, general manager, CMP.
