Hans Gerson, former President & Ceo of the Port of Amsterdam, has today been inaugurated as Vice-Mayor of the city of Amsterdam. He will be succeeding Tjeerd Herrema who resigned at the end of February. Vice-mayor Gerson will be responsible for Traffic, Infrastructure and Transport. Next week the Municipal Executive will decide on the exact portfolio allocation.

After studying Planology and Economy, Hans Gerson (1947) started his career as management assistant at the city of Amsterdam. After several positions centering around Spatial Planning and Real Estate, from 1990 to 2000, Hans Gerson was Managing Director of the Real Estate Department City of Amsterdam. In September 2000 he was appointed CEO of the Municipal Port Authority. During his 34 years of employment, Hans Gerson also contributed significantly to the developing of the Southern IJ quays, Amsterdam Container Terminal and the AJAX-soccer stadium Amsterdam ArenA.
At this stage the Port of Amsterdam has not yet appointed a successor to Hans Gerson. In the meantime, Dertje Meijer (Managing Director of the Commercial Division) will be acting CEO.
