The amount of unitized cargo traffic was 1.34 million tons in January to February, a decrease of 28% compared to last year. The number of containers was 59,000 TEU, with units decreasing by 16 % and cargo decreasing by 24%. The number of rubber-wheeled units was 68,000, the number of vehicles decreased by 22% and the amount of cargo decreased by 28%.
On average, traffic in the Port of Helsinki has decreased a little less than the traffic in other Finnish ports. In February 2009, the amount of TEUs and containers in the Port of Helsinki was the largest
in Finland.
The number of passengers in January–February was 1.2 million, an increase of 3.1% from last
year. On the Tallinn route there was an increase of up to 6%; the number of passengers to Stockholm
remained at the same level as last year. There was a slight increase in the number of passengers
to German ports.
