Mar 27, 2009 Port

South Africa’s state-owned port operator Transnet Port Terminals has announced that all 15 of its port terminals in six commercial ports along South Africa’s coastline will be closed on the country’s forthcoming voting day, 22 April 2009.
Solly Letsoalo, Chief of Operations, said all terminals would cease operations at 06h00 on Wednesday, 22 April and reopen at 06h00 on Thursday, 23rd April 2009.
“Over and above our mandate as a state-run enterprise, we as a company stand firmly behind the democratic process and fully support the right of every South African – including our valued employees – to cast a vote in this very important election. As such, all TPT staff will be expected to exercise this right along with the millions of other voters on the day,” he said.
Transnet Port Terminals manages 15 cargo terminal operations situated across six ports including Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Richards Bay and East London.
