Busan establishes automated port control

Mar 27, 2009 Port

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in South Korea says that it will test-run an automated port control system newly established at Sinsondae pier in Busan Port and a container terminal in the southern port city, KBS World News reported.
The ministry said that currently, container transport at the piers is conducted by people who give directions to transport vehicles, however, the new system will reduce the travel length by 20 percent by giving computerised directions.
The government spent around US$1.9 million to establish the system.
The ministry added that it will set up a similar system at two more container terminals in the first half as part of its plans to expand the system at 16 ports around the country by 2012.
