Following the successful implementation of ISO14001 environmental protection system, Shekou Container Terminals (SCT) recently started to carry out ISO28000 Security Management Systems for the supply chain, which will be conducive to improve security supply chain management, lower operating risks, thus enhance competitiveness and safeguard the sustainable development of SCT. Complementary to ISO14001, which focus on environmental protection and consumption reduction, ISO28000 emphasized on terminals security management.
Under the overall guidance of major shareholder - China Merchants Holding International (CMHI), ISO28000 project has officially launched and expected to be completed in June 2009. By then, SCT will be the first container terminals in China to obtain the ISO28000 certification.
Given the current global economy circumstances, security management has become a big challenge to all walks of life especially for supply chains. Environmental protection and security have become the new competition focus among terminals such as Dubai Port World (DPW), the world’s biggest terminals operator who has obtained ISO28000 certification, APM Terminals, who has achieved ISO14001 certification, and so on. It is believed that the series of internal upgrading measures will definitely pave the way for terminals future prosperity.
