The Panama Canal Authority said it has selected the accounting firm Deloitte as auditor for the third set of locks.
Bids from four competing consortia representing more than 30 companies on the project are due March 3. The locks are at the core of the waterway's expansion, which will add a new lane of traffic.
The pre-qualified consortia are Consorcio C.A.N.A.L.; Consorcio Atlántico-Pacífico de Panamá; Consortia Bechtel, Taisei, Mitsubishi Corp.; and Consorcio Grupo Unidos por el Canal.
The port said the appointment of Deloitte will ensure a fair, open and transparent process in the awarding what will be the largest contract under the expansion program.
