Scandlines reports decline

Feb 4, 2009 Port

Scandlines expects the economic decline to affect cargo shipping between Germany and the Baltic States and between Germany and Scandinavia also in 2009, Logistics Finland reports. The German Rostock-based ferry operator is, however, optimistic about its cargo service between Germany and Finland. The Scandlines service between Rostock and Hanko developed favourably already in 2008.

Scandlines saw a 1.6% fall in the number of trucks and trailers to just under 1.1mn in 2008. The number of train wagons carried fell 1.5% to 84,200. The number of passengers decreased 3% to 17.4mn, cars 3.4% to 3.6mn and coaches 8.6% to 68,700.
