Cargo of Lithuanian Railways up 2.7% to 55 mln t in 2008

In 2008, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) transported cargo of 55 million tonnes, an increase of 2.7% year-on-year.

According to the Department of Statistics, in 2008 compared to 2007, the international transportation of cargo went down by 3.8% to total 39.6 million tonnes, whereas domestic transportation went up by 24.7% and reached 15.4 million tonnes.

Transit (45.7%) comprised a great part of compared international transportation of cargo. It decreased by 8.7% compared to 2007.
