Shenzhen's YICT general manager Kenneth Tse steps down

Jan 20, 2009 Port

THE early retirement of Kenneth Tse from Shenzhen's Yantian International Container Terminal as director and general manager is expected to be a loss to the company, and to Shenhzen whose international status as logistics centre is no small part due to his influence on the city's economic boards.

The YICT terminal, a Hutchison Port Holdings venture, runs to 13 berths and has a further two planned for launch in 2010. Its turnover in 2007 reached 10 million TEU and averaging 35 lifts per hour. A volume decrease of six per cent at the terminal reflects export drops in China from the first half of 2008.

Mr Tse will remain as an advisor during the 2009 after he leave on February 1, and will be succeeded by Hai Chi Yuet, according to a company email to employees.

His 15-year stint at YICT began as managing director following a career as an economist at University of Hong Kong, which was followed by his entry into shipping services posts at Swire Group, Citibank and then in 1992 at Hutchison's flagship Hong Kong International Terminal, where he instituted industry wide productivity measures as senior project manager.
