Southwestern China river port city Chongqing has started building a new box terminal at its Donggang Port Area, Xinhua reported.
The new terminal will have 10 berths and occupy an area of eight square kilometres. It is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, 18 kilometres away from downtown and 16 kilometres away from Chongqing's Jiangbei International Airport.
Meanwhile, phase 1 of the development of Chongqing's Foeryan Port Area, which is the port's third largest area after Cuntan and Jiulongpo Port Area, has recently been completed and become operational.
The port area covers an area of 26.7 hectares and will be mainly used as a terminal for automobile transportation. Shipping locally manufactured cars via the new terminal is said to be able to save up to CNY50 million (US$7.3 million) compared to moving vehicles by road.
