Electronic Data Systems has won its second large contract this week, a 12-month pilot project with the Victorian Department of Infrastructure to run a trial of its new systems integration technology.
On Monday, Plano-based EDS said it had a new contract with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., which will see the technology firm managing Reynolds' IT infrastructure and electronic communications.
The new pilot project announced on Tuesday is designed to take information from thousands of users and integrate it into one online system. The technology is said to be capable of increasing cargo movement through the Port of Melbourne.
"The intention is to provide far greater access to shipping, cargo and transport operations information," said Chris Mitchell, managing director for EDS Australia, in a written statement.
The Port of Melbourne handles approximately 40 percent of Australia's international container trade.
EDS (NYSE: EDS) provides information-technology outsourcing, data management and other services.
