Tianjin port grows 20% in 2008

Tianjin Port, one of the world's top 20 ports in terms of container handling and among the top six in tonnage, saw container volume grow nearly 20 percent in 2008, to 8.5 million TEUs.

   The North China port, among the closest major ports to the Beijing metropolitan area, handled 7.1 million TEUs in 2007, according to a report last week in the China Daily. Tonnage at the port, which is an important conduit for industrial commodities produced in northeastern China, went from 300 million tons in 2007 to 354 millions in 2008.
