CoPT strengthened security

Dec 9, 2008 Port

The Cochin Port Trust (CoPT) has strengthened security at the Port in the wake of the increased threat perceptions in the country, Exim News Service informed.

In this connection, CoPT has acquired two new high-speedboats exclusively for patrolling its waterfront, while the other security measures were being taken care of by a radar-based Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) installed on land.

The CoPT Chairman, Mr N. Ramachandran, said that security in the Port area had been strengthened even before November 26, the day of the Mumbai terrorist attack.

The VTMS, though installed to provide navigational safety to big and small vessels, including fishing boats entering and operating within the Port limits, was capable of detecting all types of vessels for inspection and interception.
