KALMAR, a part of Cargotec Corporation, has been awarded a contract to supply 42 'Ottawa 4x2' terminal tractors to the Port of Salalah in the south of Oman, to facilitate the port's expansion and its rapid growth.
The equipment is scheduled for delivery by the end of the year, a statement from Cargotec said. The transaction also includes an initial stock of spare parts.
The order coincides with a massive expansion project at the port to raise its annual container handling capacity to 9 million TEU by the end of 2011. The Port of Salalah is located on the rim of the Indian Ocean, on a shipping route between Asia and Europe.
Graham Boxall, sales director for the Middle East Region, Kalmar Industries, said: Kalmar's decision to open a regional office in Dubai this year to provide closer customer support is bearing good results. We are physically much closer now to our customers and they certainly appreciate that.
The company release added the fleet of Ottawa terminal tractors will service the quayside operation with post-panamax gantry cranes.
