Ports of Auckland attempts to avert strike

Nov 20, 2008 Port

The Ports of Auckland is hoping mediation by the Department of Labour will avert what it considers is unnecessary strike action by the Maritime Union of New Zealand, the New Zealand Press Association reported.

A mediation session has been scheduled for November 26, 2008.

The union has given notice of strike action affecting the Port's two container terminals, road, rail, shuttle and engineering services during a 24 hour period from December 2 to December 3.

The Company's General Wharves, on both the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, and the marine services division, will continue to operate.
