The Canadian Auto Workers, which represents the unionized workers employed with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp., ratified a three-year labor agreement on Oct. 22.
The agreement, covering a period of April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011, provides annual wage increases of 3 percent, 3 percent, and 3.25 percent, respectively, over the life of the contract; one additional paid holiday in February; and increases to shift and skilled trade allowances.
The SLSMC said the contract includes the necessary flexibility for the corporation to move ahead with the development of new technology, which expected to improve the system's productivity and increase worker safety.
