The two top executives at the Port of San Diego announced Wednesday their joint intentions to retire.
Port President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Hollingsworth, a 23-year veteran of the port, has served in the port's top executive position for more than six years. He will officially retire as soon as the port's governing board finds a replacement.
Port Board Chairman Michael A. Bixler said a committee has been formed to conduct a national search for a replacement. Bixler said he hopes to have a new President/CEO in place by the end of the year.
Dan Wilkens, port executive vice president, also said Wednesday he intends to retire after more than 25 years with the port. Wilkens has spent much of his port career handling community and governmental affairs in close cooperation with the last four port CEOs -- Don Nay, Larry Killeen, Dennis Bouey and Hollingsworth. He said he would depart when Hollingsworth does.
Port officials plan to fill the executive vice president position internally.
