2 Jacksonville port cranes topple

Aug 15, 2008 Port

Two gantry cranes at the Jacksonville Port Authority's Blount Island container terminal collapsed at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Port authority spokeswoman Nancy Rubin told News4Jax.com that afternoon the toppled cranes shut down our incoming gate. The trucks were being diverted, either turned around totally or they're queuing up on the side and waiting for the gate to reopen.

The gate was back in business to truckers at about 5 p.m.

Port officials are unsure what caused the cranes to collapse. Strong winds were reported in the area. No injuries were reported.

The incident is under investigation, News4Jax.com said.
