Houston reopens terminals

Aug 7, 2008 Port

The Port of Houston, which suspended operations at its Barbours Cut and Bayport terminals Monday afternoon as Tropical Storm Edouard approached, said it reopened them Tuesday.

The port said entrance and exit ramps at the Turning Basin from and to 610 were flooded at 10:30 a.m. and that continued heavy rain would only worsen this condition. It is recommended that personnel use Gate 1 or Gate 8 off of Clinton Avenue until further notice.

It said for vehicles headed east on Barbours Cut Blvd. from the APM Terminal to Lobic Street, should exercise caution because water is accumulating on the street.

Updated information can be obtained by calling the Security Hotline at (713) 670-2870.

Updates can be gotten at the Port of Houston Authority's web site www.phastatus.com/go/site/1798/.

The Houston Chronicle said Galveston avoided the severe weather that had been feared and that in the Houston area officials warned of the threat of street flooding during the day and tornadoes later tonight.

The Coast Guard has established an information site for Tropical Storm Edouard at www.uscgstormwatch.com
