Jean-Claude Terrier will become director general of the Port of Marseilles Authority, succeeding Guy Janin, who has opted to retire after nearly three years in the post.
Terrier, 56, has been director general at the Port of Dunkirk since March 2004 and is expected to start his new job in September following ratification by the French cabinet.
Meanwhile the port reported that, despite prolonged industrial action over the French government's port reform proposals, first half cargo throughput totaled 47.48 million tons in Marseilles-Fos, just 1 percent below the overall total for January-June 2007. Container volume, however was down 13 percent to 426,000 TEU.
