Mr Lee became the second president of the BPA in January 2007.
THE president of the Busan Port Authority Gap Sook Lee resigned from his post Tuesday.
Mr Lee will be replaced by Ki Tae Roh, who was most recently the president of Buk-hang I Bridge. Mr Roh was previously involved with the BPA, having served as the chairman of the port commission for the three years to December 2006.
The move had been widely expected as it follows the country’s administrative protocol in which the incoming president of the country replaces members of the administration with members from his own clique. Lee Myung Bak became president of South Korea in February this year.
Mr Lee became the second president of the BPA in January 2007 and presided over a period of growth at the North Port, largely by attracting transshipment cargo from second-tier ports in northern China.
Under Mr Lee’s watch the BPA also embarked on a series of overseas investments in ports that could be introduced into the Busan Port network, notably an investment in Nakhodka port in Russia.
Mr Roh said he aims to pursue the construction of Busan New Port, establish a distripark at Busan New Port, break ground at the Busan North Port Redevelopment Project this year, and secure additional cargo.
