DP World takes over management of Dakar port

Jul 2, 2008 Port

DP World took over the management of the Senegalese port of Dakar from French rival Bollore on Monday, the Dubai-based giant said.

DP, one of the world's biggest port operators, won last year the concession to manage the port for 25 years.

The subsidiary of Dubai World, a holding company owned by the Dubai government, has been subcontracting the job at Dakar since January to Bollore while the French company tried to fight the loss of the concession.

DP World had pledged to invest more than 100 million euros (157 million dollars) to develop the terminal so that its capacity will rise from 250,000 containers now to 550,000 in 2010.
