In January-May, 2008, joint throughput of Klaipeda port and Butinge Terminal grew by 29.3%, year-on-year, to 16.4 million tonnes, Statistics Department of Latvian Government reports.

In the reported period, the port of Klaipeda handled 13 million tonnes of cargo (+19.1%, year-on-year). The terminal increased its throughput by 90.5%, year-on-year, to 3.4 million tonnes due increased delivery of Russian oil to Mazeikiai Refinery.

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo (including oil products) in the port of Klaipeda totaled 8.5 million tonnes (+43.9%).  Container throughput grew by 20.9%, year-on-year, to 148,800 TEU.

The complex of the Butinge Terminal consists of a crude oil pipeline, which connects the facility with the Mazeikiai Refinery, onshore terminal equipment and tanks at Butinge, offshore pipeline, and a single point mooring (SPM) buoy. These units form the onshore and offshore parts of the Terminal. The terminal’s design capacity is 14 million tonnes per year.
