SCT changing name to DP World Southampton

Jun 13, 2008 Port

Southampton Container Terminals, the United Kingdom's second-largest container terminal, will July 1 change its name to DP World Southampton.

The terminal is jointly owned by Dubai-based Dubai Ports World (51 percent) and Associated British Ports (49 percent).

We are confident that in adopting this strong global brand, there will be a clear association that we are part of a worldwide group of marine container terminals with a wealth of operational expertise, industry knowledge and relationships, a clear focus on customer service and the capability to further develop our terminal, said Campbell Mason, managing director of SCT.

SCT last year handled 1.9 million TEUs, a 26 percent increase compared to 2006.

DP World's global terminal portfolio includes 44 existing facilities and 13 new developments across 28 countries. In 2007, the company handled more than 43.3 million TEUs, up 18 percent on the previous year.
