Throughput of Riga port up 16% to 11.969 mln t y-o-y, in Jan-Feb 08

In January-May, the port of Riga handled 11.969 million tonnes of cargo (+15.7%, year-on-year), Interfax cites the port according to Gudok.

In the reported period, the port handled 7.84 million tonnes of dry loose cargo (+31.5%) including 5.587 million tonnes of coal (+37.4%), 755,600 tonnes of chemical cargo (-2,1%), 373,200 tonnes of wood chips (+3.1%).

In the 5-month period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 2.046 million tonnes (-3.1%) including 2.025 million tonnes of oil products (-3.2%), 20,400 tonnes of liquefied gas (+38.3%).

In January-May, 08, the port handled 2.083 million tonnes of general cargo (-8.1%) including 791,400 tonnes of containerized cargo (+6.1%), 955,700 tonnes of timber goods (-23.6%).

In 2007, the port’s throughput grew by 2.3%, year-on-year, to 25.933 million tonnes.

In January-May 08, the port serviced 128,711 passengers (+24.2%, year-on-year).

In 2007, the number of passengers handled by the port grew by 79%, year-on-year, to 441,914 passengers.
